The Camera Works Underwater (Leslie's new do)

Yay! The camera that my dad loaned us for the trip is actually waterproof. At first, we couldn't believe that it was true. But apparently, it is (it still turns on at least). This is a cool, cool thing. Team wander gives two thumbs up for things that work underwater, especially since that's where we spent most of this past week.

This is the pool at the resort, a comfy swimming temperature. We don't however have any pictures of us in the ocean because we're pretty sure the ocean water is boiling. It's a solid 85-90 degrees in the ocean. It's the craziest thing ever, but needless to say, when it's 100 degrees outside of the ocean and 90 inside the ocean, the ocean doesn't turn out to be all that refreshing.

The resort is set about 15km from the nearest town, but the restaurants inside are very boring (and expensive), so each night we've been trekking down the road to find these tiny restaurants whose menus (and owners) we cannot understand at all. So far, this plan has not failed us at all, although we have ended up with some crazy dishes (we'll start taking pictures for you Liza, that's a great idea.) One icy dessert that's worth noting is called cendol and at first glance looks like a regular snow cone, but as you start getting into it, you find black beans and strange green noodles. Delicious though!

We braved the bus this morning just so we could get to the internet cafe and write a message to everyone. The comments waiting for us made us sooooooo happy. Somehow we got lucky and only had to wait half an hour, apparently they only come by 2 or 3 times a day. The driver just slows down and as you are climbing in, he starts going again. It was so full we were standing on the steps driving down the road.

Aaaaand, for those of you asking about the new travel 'do, here you go....

We hope everybody has a great next couple of days, we miss you all!!

Love,
TeamWander

I'm probably going to comment on every entry, so you'll just have to deal with it. That's what you get when you have a semi-employed student friend.

I LOVE the new hair! Isn't shorter hair just so much less work? I'm also glad you'll be taking pictures of your food adventures.

Speaking of food adventures...a friend from church is having an Iron Chef party in a few weeks. The ingredient we have to use is pumpkin. Mike and I have already started collecting recipes for pumpkin soup, pumpkin risotto and the like. Today I tried out pumpkin-cranberry muffins and thought of you, Leslie. You definitely inspired the baker in me!

love the 'do of course.

the bus description reminds me of the 'cumbi' we used to have to take for 1 sole to get to school in peru. did you guys ever take those? is it like that or am i way off?

thanks a lot for putting in the effort of sending these updates!

Leslie, I love the new look!

My life is much less exciting (I spent the weekend schmoozing in Philly - jealous??) but your stories remind me of grander times. Eat something crazy for me! Tried durians yet?

Miss you both,
Jess

Ahhh, so many questions. We love it!! This is the kindof active blog participation we were hoping for.

1) What do we talk about traveling from place to place? Well, we do a lot of shit talking to each other. Leslie seems to be convinced that she is a better card player than Miah... the final tally has yet to be determined (yes, we're keeping score for two months). Other than that we dream about food. Yummy yummy food that we've eaten, or hope to eat, or the one food we can't eat... mexican food.

2) The bus description - though the bus we talk about in the last post was mildly peruvian, it couldn't hold a candle to the buses in Lima.

3) Durians - we're not quite sure. We ate something today that we thought might be mango but just turned out to be bad. So if durians are particularly bad, then we might have eaten them today. However, if they are yummy, then we have yet to discover them.

You guys Rock!
